Preparing to speak
Here are some tips to help you prepare for your appearance on the HelloHelps show.
It’s just a conversation. It’s a conversation between you and the host. Relax and be yourself.
Be concise. Try to answer each question within a 2-3 minute time frame. This keeps it manageable for you and the host.
Be honest. If you don’t know the answer to the question, it’s okay to say so.
Take a breath. This gives the host a chance to jump in and ask questions to help you with content. Besides, alternating voices going back and forth make it more interesting for our listeners.
Prepare as much as you want. We’ll share our questions with you beforehand so you will have a chance to prepare. In any case, we’re only asking you to contribute what you already know.
Technical Preparation
You’ll need to have the following things to get onto the episode recording.
Zoom Access. Zoom is available as an app for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android devices. You will need to download the software beforehand.
Microphone. You’ll need to have a device that has access to a microphone. We’ll do some post-editing work but the better the quality of the microphone, the better you will sound. But most mics will suffice.
Headset. Please use a headset for the recording as we want to avoid feedback and echo on the audio recording we take during the session.
A quiet room. A room that is quiet and that absorbs sound is the best room - we’ve used clothing cabinets before to get studio level quality recordings. Please put a Do Not Disturb sign on the door for the recording session.
Internet Connection. We’ll be testing the internet connectivity when we do the set up. In most cases, it shouldn’t be a problem. However, if we find that there is too much interference we might have to cancel or postpone the recording session if there is too much interference and dropped audio.
